keeping calm with Sarah

"Keep calm, smile and create beautiful things!"

It's been a very busy week so this tag is very much a message to myself!  I find smooching paint and ink around, colouring in and 'cutting and sticking' very relaxing but sometimes I really have to fight to find the time to do it.

But it's definitely worth it!  I feel better through the actual 'making', and can keep on enjoying my 'beautiful things' indefinitely :)

You are the one

My passion for collaging with scraps is deeply embedded in my elementary art teacher roots.
I love when pictures tell stories, and this one is about bringing home my puppy.
I drew a car for Stampotique's Jill Penny and Toto to ride in and pasted them into my collage.

Monochromatic - Wednesday's With Claudine

Happy mid-week (Wednesday) to you, I hope your having a wonderful week
I've been messing around in my craft room and creating some classes for my teaching schedule but I always have time for my favorite Stampotique blog posts.

This week our wonderful Tanja is challenging us to create with Monochromatic in mind. This means all the same color just maybe different shades of that color.
Be sure to check out the Designers Challenge Blog for more inspiration and to link up your creation

This week, I am using Stampotique Stamps -

Give The Dog A Bone - by Maryse Carrier
Poochas Gracias - From Carol's Collection

Monochromatic is tough for me because I like using many different colors and shades but I had a great time creating this card and figuring out what I wanted to do with it.
I hope you will come over and join us for this challenge
Have a great day!!!

waxing lyrical

I'm loving the blog makeover, what do you think?

I mentioned last week that my sewing machine had been calling me, but I have to say that wax and teabags were shouting pretty loudly too!  So I gave in ;)  There's a different tag over on my blog, complete with some detail on how I made the tags.  This one's my favourite though.

I opened up the teabag and stamped 'journey collage' on one side using an archival blank ink, then treated the other side just like a page in my art journal!  I sprayed some Dylusions ink on the teabag then stenciled on some white paint through a harlequin stencil.  The heart was stitched on after waxing the teabag, and the word 'love' added afterwards too.

Astrid on Sunday

Hello you! Happy to see you here :-) I have made an art journal page for my Sunday post.
For this page I began with scraping some gesso through a stencil, after this was dry I sprayed the page with Dylusions. I splattered with some black acrylics and stamped the Journey Collage with a Distress Ink pad. I paper pierced Scooter Girl and gave her a smile because she enjoys life :-)

Coby's Saturday

Time flies, Saturday again. For today I stamped on a Gelliprint.
What I mean is: I love to play with my Gelli Plate, to make a lot
of prints en when I wanted to make something
I look in a big draw with all my prints.
Then I stamp on it, so I'm not stamping on the Gelli Plate.

The stamp I used is such a sweety, many persons don't know that
Stampotique also has such sweet stamps.
I love them!

Story behind the stamp

Courting (9180) is one of my favorite images. I used it along with my circle border (9136) to create this tag.  The soft colors are from Faber-Caswell Gelatos and a light application of gesso.

If you would like to learn the story behind this stamp follow me to veralanestudio.com.

Perfect Pairs Journal Page - Wednesday with Claudine

Hello everyone, I hope your having a wonderful week thus far. I love being able to pop in here half way through your work week and hopefully give you some inspiration for our weekly Designer's Challenges

This week the wonderful Kathi is challenging us to do some "Perfect Pairs", meaning two stamped images, two colors (other than black), two textures or pairs of embellishments.. just two things that go great together well

I have created a journal page and am using the following Stampotique Stamps -
Mela - By Daniel Torrent
Oliver - By Daniel Torrent

These two stamps, in my opinion, are a perfect pair, they look like they just go together and I love that about them

I used a paper towel and some distress paint to create my background for this journal page

I also added some torn book pages, gelato hearts, wash tape and some stenciling after my paint was dry (sorry, forgot to take a photo of this step)

I then stamped, colored (with distress markers) and cut out my Mela and Oliver

In order to make my Mela and Oliver stand out a bit more off the page I outlined them and then added black paint

I glued them directly on top of that and finished up my pages, have a look

I really am loving how they turned out and this is now one of my favorite ever journal pages
Thanks once again for stopping by and having a look, cheers to you!!

Tuesday with Val and a Shaped Card

Today I would like to share 3 techniques!

  1. Shaped card: First, I stamped the chair on polka dot paper and pasted it to my card front.  I then cut through all layers (chair, card front, and card back) to create a shaped card.
  2. Paper piecing: Next, I stamped the chair on a baroque paper, cut out the arm covers and chair skirt and pasted them over the polka dot paper.
  3. Altered stamp: Finally, I inked the edges and face of the spotted monster (avoiding the dots in the centre) and drew in little hearts instead of spots just for Valentine's Day!

Thanks so much for dropping by!
Val :)

I used My Favorite Things and Tim Holtz dies to cut my paper and colored them with the sweetest colors Dylusions have. Stamped with my newest and already favorite background stamp on a Fishtail. I colored the sweet tooth with Distress markers. And wrote Sweetheart on the banner. Voilà... a sweet tag for you!

Coby's Saturday.

Last week I had a workshop at de Craftorij, one
of the three stores in the Netherlands where we can buy
Stampotique. So I did, of course:-).
I bought Hexagons:

Love hexagons and I thought: ok I'm going to make an Art Journalpage
with it. I placed the stamp on my desk and when I was playing with
7 dots papers I got a total differend idea.
Stamp on 7 dots paper, cut it and embos with clear embossing powder.
Black paper as a background and a lovely qoute to finish
the card.

Used stamps: hexagons, a thing of beauty.

my Stampotique February calendar pages by Sarah A

I am so pleased with myself...I've got beyond January with this year's calendar pages!  This is a first :)

To be honest, it's probably because I'm committed to posting here each Friday ... calendar pages are a nice project to share.  I also enjoyed the challenge of just using Stampotique images.

I decided to colour Peggy's face and hands, rather than paper-piece them.  Whilst colouring I discovered that she had a heart on her jumper ... I'd never noticed that before!

I was a bit worried that the white hearts stood out too much, but once they have writing on they 'tone down' a touch ...

... and I think I like it :)

Repurposing; first aid tape

It’s been a busy few days for me so I have resorted to a simple and fast repurposing project. Many people have been making their own washi tape.  As a believer of using what you have on hand, I’ve decided to repurpose some of the rolls of first aid tape that were left over from a never to be repeated injury.  It’s lightweight, flexible, and easy to reposition.  The tape takes acrylic well, which is the first step before stamping.

I loved to use my Stampotique  tiny hand helds , and mini city cube  for this project.  The text is from my collage definition stamp. Details on my blog at veralanestudio.com.
The weekend is nearly here. Try making some repurposed washi tape!

Sister's Canvas - Wednesday's With Claudine

Good morning all, I hope your having a wonderful week thus far. I'm having a fabulous week,

 TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY
and I received some new Stampotique stamps in the mail and I cannot wait to get busy and play with them.

We have a new challenge for you up on the  Desingers Challenge Blog this week.
Jackie is challenging us to use a "Heart" in your art this week. Make sure to come by the designer's blog and link up your creation for a chance to win

For my creation, I decided to make something for my daughter.
Her and her sister are 6 years apart and haven't been around each other much in the passed years so they are really loving spending time together lately and since we have moved back to Colorado they have truly re-connected.

For this canvas I used Stampotique Stamps -
Stacked Love - By Roc Nicholas
Tenticurl - By Jo Capper-Sandon
Seaweed - By Jo Capper-Sandon

I used a photo that we took at Christmas this passed year, I decided to go with a brown and cream color pallet so I printed my photo in the sepia tone.

My hearts are subtle in this project but they are definitely there

Thanks so much for your kind comments each week and for stopping by
For more info on how this canvas came together please visit my blog

Coby's Saturday

Today it's the first saturday of the month, so time for
a new Calendar page: February.
I  really was suprised that a Birthday Calendar
is so unknown.
In the Netherlands almost every body has one in the
toilet at home and sometimes also at work.
So: start making one for your own or print mine and write all
the names of your family and Friends on it.

t!

I stamped on a Gelliprint and I used:
