butterfly collage art journal page

Apologies for being AWOL last week, work was manic, including the weekends!!  Life of a teacher eh!

But this weekend just gone I made time to play around with some stamped collage elements in my journal.  I'm particularly enjoying using pencil on my journal pages

This weekend I'm meeting up with crafty friends so they'll be more journaling happening I'm sure :)

A time for giving

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Thanksgiving marks the beginning of the holiday season.  While many of you will be out shopping this weekend I hope some of you will find time to play in your studio.  Why not collect your paper scraps and color coordinate them to create a set of note cards?  What a lovely gift to create a stationery or thank you card set for a friend or loved one.

Large Fluerfly is stamped with Mementos ink and colored with markers.  Scrap paper and Pitt pen are added for these fast and easy cards.

Corrie sets the challenge at the Stampotique Designers' Challenge Blog and would like everyone to make something with a stripy background.
"You can use ink, paint or pens whatever you like, just no ready made stripes with pattern paper."

My stripey background are stripes of rickrack stitched on cardstock.  My little taxi stamp is repeated for a bumpy ride.

Coby's Saturday

I'm still practicing in my great Dylusion
Art Journal....and still it's difficult but I
go on!

This time I stamped the background with
the smallest Gelliplate...so fun to do!
The circles cut by hand at sew under the
sewing machine, then colored with

unfinished!

Sometimes a journal page just sits there for a while ...

...and sometimes that 'while' can be a lonnnnng one!  This page started off with some brown spray which sat in my journal for ages.  I recently added some blue (love blue and brown together), didn't like it so used my solution to most pages I don't like - white paint/spray through a stencil :)

I love those large circles so complemented them with one of Stampotique's new release images - Daniel's circles.  They're stamped over one of my very favourite Stampotique images - numeric.

So now I have a double page spread I love, but is still unfinished...

...and that's okay!  It's just the way of art journaling flows.

Lucy in the sky with diamonds

It's Bling week at the Design Team Challenge .  Our lovely and talented France Papillon has asked us to "Bring on the Bling."
My "Lucy" is Magda's Agatha's Moon.  Also in this card is Daniel's circle cube and France's essential Design Cube

Bring On The Bling - Wednesday's With Claudine

Hello all, This week over at the Design Team Challenge Blog the Challenge is all about "Bringing on the Bling"!!
Our wonderful hostess France Papillon has picked out theme this week.
This was a toughie for me because I don't do a lot of "bling" when I craft but it was fun to step outside my box and create something

I used Stampotique Stamp
Stella - By Artist Jo Capper-Sandon

I decided to make an ATC for this one and here is my outcome

I added bling in the form of ultra fine glitter to the bees and the red line that Stella is sitting on. I think it turned out fun and colorful!

Thanks for coming by and make sure to join in at the Challenge Blog

art journaling on the train

It might look like it ..

but this isn't quite the same journal that I've been enjoying working in recently.  I took a baggie of art journaling supplies away with me on our recent trip to London, including my little Daler Rowney journal (which is about 4"x 6" in size, a nominal A6) but when it came to the journey home I realised I'd accidentally packed it into my suitcase!

Fortunately we'd happened to shop at the Chelsea School of Art and Design shop (next to the Tate Britain, open to the public, very very cheap :)  ) and that journal I did have in my bag! It's a proper square but similar in size to my Daler Rowney (Sea White chunky small, approx 5.5" square)

What I LoVe about working in artist quality sketchbooks is that the paper is heavy enough to take wet media so no gessoing, no gluing of pages together to make them thick enough etc

Having said that, I did glue in a brusho background before collaging on top (with more brusho backgrounds, letraset and those gorgeous stamped numerals!!)  !

It was a very therapeutic activity for a train journey!

Snowman Spotlight

As you may already know, Arwen is hostess to SDC172 calling for "Spotlighting detail."   I must admit, I was unfamiliar with the technique and idea intrigued me.  I took a different approach and incorporated the "spotlight" with the mixed media background.

The stamp is snow family

Spotlight SDC 172

Alright ya'll, have you ever head of the "spotlighting"?
So this is all about highlighting a portion of an image to make it stand out.

So for this week's challenge over at Stampotique's Designer Challenge Blog our so talented and wonderful Arwen is our hostess and she has chosen the theme "Spotlight"

This is a fun and difficult challenge at the same time. I love it! Spotlighting isn't hard but it's tough to decide which portion to highlight.

I decided to make a simple card for this challenge and highlight a portion of my main image stamp.
I added some patterned paper for the background

I used Stampotique Stamps

Young Ignis - By Artist Magda Polakow

Barcode Text - By Artist France Papillon

I chose to highlight the teddy bear because it seems as love Young Ignis is just hugging her bear and loving her.

Coby's Saturday

And it's November.....time flies.

Time for a new calender page, just one to go
and I can make my birthday calender for on the toilet.

Yes I know, there are a lot of people that find it very
strange but in the Netherlands almost every one has it.
So we'll never forget a birthday anymore!
